History

Laboratorios Rubió is a family-owned company founded in 1968 by Salvador and Pelayo Rubió. Its primary goal was to launch medicines in the Spanish market to cover the existing unmet medical need. A non-existing product in the Spanish market, Resincalcio (Calcium polystyrene sulfonate) for the treatment of hyperkalemia, was the first product launched by the company. Its great success set the trend of Laboratorios Rubió future business strategy focusing on niche markets.

The leit motive for successive product launches was to provide the medical community with products able to cover other unmet needs and also non-existing product based on specific demand of healthcare professionals.

Following the same criteria, and as consequence of international alliances, Laboratorios Rubió has increased its internal portfolio.

During the last years and after an important domestic growth, the company embarked upon a geographic expansion that has contributed significantly to its development. Laboratorios Rubió currently manufactures pharmaceutical specialties that are marketed in different American, Asian, European and African countries.

Our drugs are well known by the medical community worldwide and are being prescribed with complete guarantee and satisfaction. Moreover, our main goal remains to continuously provide innovative drug which are essential for reduced groups of patients with special needs.

An important company milestone was the construction in Castellbisbal (Barcelona Area) of the production and pilot plant, a warehouse of finished product, packaging and raw materials and quality control facilities. The production plant has been designed to be fully GMP compliant. The project was afterwards completed with the new five-floor building with a surface of 650 m² per floor. With the inauguration of the new building on 2002, Laboratorios Rubió moved all its activities to its facilities in Castellbisbal, including Marketing and General Direction.
